Our #1 Grocery Store Tip…
Never shop hungry.
That is all.
Here are three great smoothie recipes to fill you up before you hit the stores!
The Happy Rabbit
In 2013 we decided to open a small juice and smoothie bar in the Kawartha Lakes. Unfortunately, location, weather and pretty much everything else worked against us and we decided to close it down after a year and a half. Although we were disappointed, our little experiment gave us a platform to create delicious smoothie and juice recipes and test them out on a wonderful group of amazing customers.
When we decided the name of the shop was going to be ‘The Happy Rabbit’, we knew there would have to be a signature drink that would share the name. As such, carrot juice was a given. From our experiences with our own companion rabbits, strawberries and banana were also a must (In case you don’t know, both will make rabbits incredibly happy). Finally, a little orange juice to round things out and ‘Voila!’ the Happy Rabbit Smoothie was created.
- Juice of 2 carrots
- Juice of 2 oranges
- 1 banana
- 4 strawberries
- Blend everything together until smooth
Lacuma Matata
Have you tried lacuma yet? It’s the powder form of an Incan fruit that is dried and milled. It has an almost caramel or light maple flavor and can be used as a low glycemic-sweetener in smoothies, chocolate and raw desserts. Lacuma also contains a variety of nutrients including beta-carotene, calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin B3. It is a source of carbohydrates, but has also been shown to help control blood sugars levels, making it a great sugar substitute for those on a low-glycemic diet. In this smoothie, it’s just meant to lend a background flavor as opposed to sweetness, giving it a little hint of caramel that plays beautifully off the fruits. Definitely give this one a try and you’ll be singing ‘No Worries’ in no time!
- 1 cup almond milk
- ½ orange, peeled
- ¼ cup pineapple
- ¼ mango
- ¼ cup blueberries
- 1 tbsp lacuma powder
- Combine all the ingredients in a high speed blender and puree until smooth
